Why: After the disciples received the Holy Spirit they fasted in preparation for their ministry before going out to the world to deliver the message of the gospel. We fast in recognition of our responsibilities to minister and deliver the same message we have received "Christ has risen from the dead".

When: Fast occur in the summertime; beginning the day after Pentecost and ends on the feast of St. Peter and St. Paul (July 12). Since the day of Pentecost can vary the fast can last between two to six weeks.
