FAST OF GREAT LENT / አብይ ጾም
Why: After being baptized, Christ retreated into the wilderness and prepared for His ministry by fasting. Throughout this fast we relive the life of Christ with each week focusing on an event in His life.
When: This fast occurs once a year and begins between February and March; lasting for fifty-five days.

FAST OF ADVENT | ጾመ ነብያት
Why: Many prophets fasted in preparation to receiving Christ, similarly Moses fasted forty days before receiving the Ten commandments. Similar to the Prophets we fast in preparation for receiving Christ as Christmas is approaching.
When: This fast occurs during fall (November 25 - January 6 or 7); lasting for forty-three or forty-four days.
